Collections

Arms Akimbo, pastel by Patty RiceImages are grouped into collections by both subject and media:

  • Children: Portraits of children
  • Teens: Portraits of teenagers
  • Adults: Portraits of Adults
  • Pastels: Pastels are a painting medium made of pigments mixed in a clay binder that can be applied to a variety of textured surfaces. Although "painting" in pastel is not done with brushes the resulting portrait can be just as rich in color and detail. Used by the impressionists, pastel portraiture is quite durable when applied to archival quality surfaces and protected by appropriate framing.
  • Graphite: Graphite or pencil is applied to a variety of drawing surfaces from very smooth bristol to my favorite, Arches Cover, in an ivory color. The resulting dramatic black and white portrait resembles an old sepia photograph.
  • Oils: Painting in oil on canvas is the most traditional two dimensional medium used in portraiture. Oil paint is made from ground pigments mixed in an oil medium and applied to a stretched canvas. Properly applied and cared for, oil paintings have stood the test of time, lasting for centuries.
